A Stellar Cruise & Travel Hosted Journey
From the moment we gathered our group in Christchurch and Auckland, we knew this tour would be something truly special. Travelling with entertainer Ali Harper meant we weren’t just taking our guests to New York; we were inviting them into her world. As hosts, we felt privileged to guide everyone through a city we love, with a performer who understands its heartbeat in a way few do.
When we arrived at the Edison Hotel in the centre of Times Square, the excitement was immediate. With breakfast included each morning and porterage taken care of, our travellers could settle in comfortably and prepare for the days ahead. Times Square pulsed just outside the doors, and it felt like the perfect base for the adventure we were about to share.
Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
Our first full day began with an early start to Battery Park. Watching our group see the Statue of Liberty up close for the first time was a moment we always treasure. The ferry ride, the skyline, and the stories of Ellis Island created a powerful beginning to the tour. Some guests chose to linger on the island, taking in the museum at their own pace before returning to Manhattan.
Broadway Behind the Scenes
That afternoon, we stepped straight into the world of Broadway. Walking through Times Square and the theatre district with a knowledgeable guide brought the history of these iconic venues to life. The visit to an active rehearsal studio was a highlight, offering a rare look at the daily workings of a Broadway company. We ended the day with a relaxed welcome dinner at Trattoria Trecolori, where our group began to bond over shared excitement for the week ahead.
Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO Food Tour
The next morning, we took the metro to Brooklyn for a walking food tour through DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights. Between the pizza, pastries and stories of the neighbourhoods, our guests quickly fell in love with this part of the city. Standing on the Brooklyn Bridge with the skyline behind us was a moment many described as unforgettable.
The Book of Mormon
That evening, we walked together to our first Broadway show, The Book of Mormon. The energy of the theatre, the humour, the music and the sheer talent on stage set the tone for the performances still to come.
Horse and Carriage Ride
A slower morning followed with a horse and carriage ride through Central Park. The autumn colours and peaceful paths offered a welcome contrast to the bustle of Midtown.
New York Cabaret Convention
Later, we made our way to Lincoln Center for the New York Cabaret Convention. Sitting in the Rose Theatre surrounded by music lovers, we enjoyed an evening of exceptional performances. It was a beautiful lead‑in to the shows still ahead, especially those featuring Ali.
Big Bus 48‑Hour Pass
With hop‑on hop‑off passes in hand, our travellers spent the next two days exploring Manhattan in the way that suited them best. Some headed downtown to the Financial District, others visited museums or wandered through the Upper East Side. It was a chance to see the city through their own eyes.
Death Becomes Her
That evening, we gathered again for Death Becomes Her at the Lunt‑Fontanne Theatre. With Megan Hilty, Michelle Williams and Jennifer Simard leading the cast, the show delivered glamour, comedy and theatrical sparkle.
Harlem Gospel Tour with Brunch
Our morning in Harlem was rich with culture and history. The gospel concert at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church was powerful and uplifting, and brunch on Lenox Avenue gave our group a taste of the neighbourhood’s warmth and flavour.
Just In Time
That night, we saw Jonathan Groff in Just In Time at Circle in the Square Theatre. His portrayal of Bobby Darin, paired with classic songs like Mack the Knife and Dream Lover, made for a captivating evening.
Taste the American Dream Food Tour
The next morning, we explored the Lower East Side, Chinatown and Little Italy through their food and stories. Dumplings, knishes, tacos and bagels told the story of the city’s immigrant roots in the most delicious way.
Ali Harper at Don’t Tell Mama
That evening was one of the most meaningful moments of the entire tour. Watching Ali take the stage at Don’t Tell Mama, in an intimate cabaret setting, was a privilege for all of us. Her warmth, humour and connection to the audience filled the room. For many of our travellers, this was the moment they realised just how extraordinary it was to be touring New York with her. It was personal, heartfelt and unforgettable.
Birdland Cast Party
The following night, we headed to Birdland for the Cast Party. The atmosphere was vibrant and full of talent, with performers stepping up one after another. It was spontaneous, joyful and a perfect New York night.
Woodbury Common Premium Outlets
The next day was dedicated to shopping at Woodbury Common. With more than 200 stores and a VIP coupon book, it was a full and satisfying day for bargain hunters and window shoppers alike.
Judy’s Encore at Theatre Row
Ali returned to the stage for her performance of Judy’s Encore at the United Solo Festival. Seeing her shine in this setting, surrounded by an appreciative New York audience, was another standout highlight. Her storytelling, her voice and her presence made this performance one of the defining moments of the tour. We felt proud to stand alongside her as she shared her artistry with the city.
Washington DC Day Trip
A small group also travelled to Washington DC for a full‑day guided tour. From Arlington National Cemetery to the Air and Space Museum, it was a meaningful and memorable excursion.
Farewell to New York
Our final evening together was spent sharing stories, favourite moments and reflections over a farewell dinner. After days filled with theatre, food, history and laughter, it was clear that this journey had created lasting memories and friendships. Travelling with Ali and hosting this tour was a privilege for us at Stellar Cruise & Travel, and leaving New York felt bittersweet.
We returned home with full hearts, grateful for the experiences we shared and the people who made this tour so special.
